This summer, I've experimented with dyeing and knitting with plant fibers, as part of a larger project to find warm weather (and warm body) friendly yarns. I want to wear my knitwear during all seasons, not just cozy season. And as my own body relaxes into menopause, I find that I'm more comfortable in lighter-weight sweaters and tops.
This particular base—a 50% cotton/50% wool DK weight yarn—is one I probably won't be dyeing more of, so I'm offering these skeins at a bit of a discount.
The yarn itself is lovely. It is drapier than 100% wool; the cotton content gives it a slightly "slinky" feeling when knitted. It absorbs dye beautifully and the colors are nearly identical to the colors I can create on pure wool.
But, a less insulative, DK weight yarn like this hasn't hit a solid groove for me. I find that I don't mind knitting at a finer gauge, and this summer, I wasn't reaching for projects that would fit this DK-weight gauge and fiber content—even though there are so many of them to be found.
You might enjoy making some of these (links to Ravelry). They're just not for me, and I need to keep my line-up of yarn bases honed to the ones I will knit, wear, test long-term, and want to make part of my permanent wardrobe.
FYI: Many designers write patterns for summer knitwear at a DK-weight gauge because patterns at finer gauges simply don't sell well. This yarn would be great for those patterns.
