Crisp Apple Strudel mitts: a wink and a nod to The Sound of Music
These charming fingerless mitts bring to life one of my favorite parts of the classic movie The Sound of Music: Fräulein Maria's favorite things. Expertly designed by Katy Carroll for Little Skein, the mitts feature an off-kilter cable that echoes overlapping layers of flaky pastry, and twisted ribbing gives a nod to traditional Bavarian stitch patterns. The cable is made solely of 3x3 right and left crosses, but the final effect is much more complex and striking.
We have created a fresh, glowing colorway on our House DK base to match the mitts. Apple Crisp is glazed and layered with warm golden brown, as if the mitts themselves were lit from within with golden butter and gently browning apples.
You have the option to purchase the single pattern with the kit, the full e-book, "My Favorite Things," or just the yarn, if you already own the pattern or e-book.
More about your kit options:
Crisp Apple Strudel pattern: You'll be able to download the newly formatted, single pattern, and in your kit box, you'll receive a Ravelry code to add the designer's pattern version to your Ravelry library.
"My Favorite Things" ebook: The ebook includes the pattern for Crisp Apple Strudel mitts as well as six other Sound of Music-inspired accessories, an inspirational essay by bestselling author Rachael Herron, a recipe for apple strudel cookies, and stunning photography.
Our exclusive "Apple Crisp" colorway: Hand-dyed on our Merino DK base, Apple Crisp is a beautiful glowy colorway, with undertones of browning butter, and overwashes of warm brown and pumpkin. It looks tonal inside (see the last picture) and positively glows outside (see the mitten photos, which were shot in mid-level sunlight).
