An ultra-soft, durable sock yarn with a beautiful halo of mohair.
Our Winter Sock makes warm and deliciously luxurious socks. It contains 20% kid mohair, which gives this blend strength, warmth, and its delightful halo. Kid mohair is softer than other mohair fibers, which makes it a lovely choice for luxury socks.
Winter Sock has a midrange twist, and the combination of kid mohair and nylon makes the resulting fabric strong and hard-wearing.
Little Skein's Winter Sock
Colorway: Turkish Delight
55% superwash merino, 20% kid mohair, 25% nylon
430 yards | 100 grams
Color notes: Inspired by The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, this colorway is the icy blue of the White Witch's hold on Narnia with speckles of raspberry, plum, and creamy blue, like wee tiny pops of candied fruits.
Winter Sock is extra durable because of its mohair and nylon content. These are socks that will stand up to a good deal of wear, and yet look and feel luxuriously soft. Kid mohair is softer than other mohair fibers, and makes for a wonderful substitute for MCN socks, which tend to pill and wear poorly.
For socks, aim for a gauge of 8 stitches per inch, which is usually achieved with a needle size of 2.25mm to US size 2 (2.75mm).
The colors for this, and all our house yarns, are dreamed of in San Francisco, where my home studio is located, and hand-dyed by my colleague in Maine.
I use a variety of creative inspirations for my colors, from the colors of my beloved San Francisco, to literature, to Pantone inspirations. I design the yarn from color to style and it is then brought to life by my expert dye partner, Heather, in the fresh Maine air.
Yarn is dyed in small batches, with color applied by hand and using professional acid dyes.
Care: We recommend that you hand wash our yarns in cold or lukewarm water and lay your knitted item flat to dry. While superwash yarns are treated so that they can be machine washed, taking care to wash gently and air dry will greatly prolong the life of your handknit item.
