Tale as Old as Time is a tubular, knit-in-the-round, cowl that uses 800 to 1000 yards of fingering weight yarn.
Inspiration
Tale as Old as Time is inspired by the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. The design is simple as can be: a stockinette tube, which takes advantage of one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to knit with self-striping yarn: stockinette stitch in the round, allowing you to enjoy the magic of the color changes that happen automatically and encouraging you to knit just one more stripe.
Construction
While a stockinette tube cowl can easily be knit without a pattern, I’ve devised several simple strategies to make the finishing work as easy as the knitting: The cowl starts with the easiest of all provisional cast-on methods: Judy's Magic Cast-On; and both ends of the tube are closed and then joined with garter stitch, so that only half of the stitches need to be grafted in the end.
Yarn requirements
800 to 1000 yards of fingering weight yarn
The pattern was created with Must Stash's mega-size fingering weight self-striping yarn in mind, but it can be easily knit with any two matching skeins of fingering weight yarn (800 to 1000 yards in total).
Finished size
7 1/2 inches wide when flat, and 56 inches in circumference
