  • Welcome!
I'm Anne. I hand-dye yarn, make kits for knitters, and write words for the common good. I put fresh yarn in my shop most Sundays, in tandem with my Sunday newsletter.

Harvest is my most versatile, sustainable and squishy line of yarn. It's non-superwash, but with a firm twist that helps me achieve deep and complex colors, without sacrificing one bit of responsible, traceable production.

The wool is Shaniko Wool, a merino-rambouillet blend that's grown ethically and responsibly in the western part of the US. The spinning happens in my home state of North Carolina in one of the few remaining spinning mills in the U.S. that specialize in creating yarn for the hand-knitting industry.

Harvest colors are slightly matte (rather than shiny), and the fabric you create with hand-knitting has body and squish (rather than drape). The firm twist and 3-ply structure helps it resist pilling for a bit longer than other soft yarns, and cables and texture simply pop.

Gentle on the earth, non-superwash, grown and spun domestically.

    Gauge
Harvest Bulky is an airy, light and bulky weight yarn that can be used for any pattern with a gauge between 11.5 and 16 sts to 4 inches (10 cm), which I usually achieve with a US size 8 to 11 needle (5.0 to 8.0 mm).

While bulky weight sweaters are too warm for my climate, I adore this yarn for accessories like the Birch Path cowl and chunky cabled mittens!

Do you need to alternate skeins?

Yes. All of my yarn is dyed by hand in small batches of four skeins. There will be variations in color intensity and placement. I think that’s part of what makes each skein perfect – they’re not identical. If you will be using more than 1 skein in your project, alternate skeins to blend any color differences.

    Caring for your finished item

My wool yarns should always be hand-washed with a gentle wool wash and cold-water rinse.

Depending on the difference in chemistry between your local water and mine, there may be some color residue in the wash process. Washing and rinsing in cold water will help to minimize this.

Always let your knitted item air dry to prevent shrinking or felting and to keep your item looking its best.
