A very heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful knitters who stopped by our corner of Stitches West to say hello, give us a hug, shop our collection, and let us know what you love about Little Skein. It was an amazing experience!
Here was our experience of Stitches West, by the numbers:
300 project bags made and ready for shoppers
8 amazing hand-dyers, each with a unique Enchanted Forest colorway (175 skeins in total)
100 kits, of 13 different varieties, packed and ready to go
150 skeins of Must Stash self-striping yarn
80 sets of stitch markers
23 samples to try on
3 new styles of stitch marker boxes
2 new fabrics
1 new yarn
1 new kit
From the knitters' perspective, Stitches West is a wonderland! It's my "home" show, and fills the Santa Clara Convention Center exhibit hall, all 20,000 square feet of it, with more than 200 vendors. It's located an hour south of San Francisco and is the first knitting event I ever attended. It's big, exciting, noisy, and awesome.
Behind the scenes, the week of Stitches West is just as glorious, and also a bit of a marathon. It starts months before with planning and making, but the real action happens the Wednesday before Stitches starts. We pack the studio, drive an hour south, unload, set up, and spend 25 glorious hours on the show floor meeting, greeting, talking, and laughing. On Sunday afternoon, we break down, load up, drive home, unpack and reconnect with family. Then, it's all about the quiet: reorganizing the studio, doing inventory, figuring out what needs to be restocked first, and sleeping. The (two) weeks after Stitches include lots of resting and recharging.
Of course, Molly was very happy I was home so she could get back to her regular job of guarding us during photo shoots and trying to beagle the yarn.
