Emma's Tea Rose

May subscription boxes are now landing, and we are having so much fun developing, packing, and sourcing for Little Stitches. It's quickly become one of our favorite projects and last week was the very happy box packing week! Even our postman was delighted to pick up stacks and stacks of boxes from the studio.

I'd love to share with you some of the inspirations and details behind this month's Little Stitches box, which is inspired by Jane Austen's Emma. As I developed the box, I was taken by the 2009 BBC production of Emma with beautiful Romola Garai as Emma and Jonny Lee Miller as Mr. Knightley. Throughout the series, Emma wears dresses and accents of the most beautiful terracotta rose. This color formed the basis of the yarn palette. Here's the mood board that inspired both me and our wonderful hand-dyer, Heather.

In the box

The May subscription box contains:

One or two 25g mini-skein(s) on our House Blend yarn. Each mini-skein is 25 grams, or 90 to 100 yards. We created three colorways for the box, and subscribers received one or two of them.

A tiny slice of Battenberg Cake progress marker, handcrafted and delightfully detailed, from The Nome Knitter.

Hand balm made by Tuft Woolens: Emma's Tea Rose.

A set of themed stitch markers. I created three varieties, and chose each box's set at random. They are: Wedding Cake, Emma's Picnic, and Love Comes to Hartfield.

A greeting card with hand-lettered Emma artwork from Canadian artist Sinead Cahill, specially licensed to Little Skein.

Wood bobbin & embroidery floss so that subscribers can hand-embroider the bookmark, if they want to adorn the nameplate area.

A pattern: The box includes a pattern for the mini-skein that can be completed in one or two evenings, and that will give you a taste of the yarn and colorway. This month, it's a simple basketweave bookmark with a tassel and area for hand-embroidery, Emma's Picnic bookmark. I've made a simple tutorial to show you how to make a tassel, if you've never done this before.

Shop the May box

Full skeins of all three colorways, as well as stitch markers and other extras from the box, will be available for subscribers to order between June 12 and 15. After that time, they'll be open for regular shoppers.

We'd love to make a box for you in July! We will be opening spots for new subscribers on June 20, and you would join us beginning with the box that will ship in mid-July.
